Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Oral Examination and PhD Candidacy

Students must meet the requirements of their home Department/Program with regard to the details of their qualifying and general examinations. This typically involves a written portion, which may be an original research proposal or a thesis proposal, followed by an oral examination. OSU graduate school rules stipulate the length (two hours) and format of the oral exam (questioning by a committee chaired by the supervisor and a minimum of three other OSU graduate faculty members). Additional requirements placed upon CMBP trainees will be that at least one CMBP trainer in addition to the supervisor, the co-advisor, will serve as a member of the candidacy examination committee.
